Welcome to Fr33-to-Play Friday – a weekly look at some of the latest free-to-play titles available along with full games that are being given away for a limited time.

Today I have three different suggestions of games that are currently free to play. First up is Episode 1 of the Kickstarter-funded mobile game Republique which is the App of the Week on the iTunes Store and features a stellar voice cast including David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid) and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect). The game combines touch-based stealth gameplay with puzzles and what the developer calls “strategic choices”, and is made up of five episodes in total (Episode 2 is the latest of these to be released).
Republique is one of the most high profile iOS games to appear in recent times due to its successful Kickstarter campaign and development team comprised of industry veterans who previously worked on AAA titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo 4, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of story-driven mobile titles.
Next up we have the PC version of Defiance which went free-to-play earlier this week to celebrate the upcoming Season Two premiere of the game’s crossover TV show. Developer Trion Worlds say this sci-fi MMO will also go free-to-play on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the coming weeks so perhaps hold off on buying it until then if you’ve been eyeing it out on consoles.
You can download Defiance on PC for free from the game’s official website.
Finally, the PC version of Magic 2014 — Duels of the Planeswalkers is currently free-to-play on Steam until 1pm PST on Sunday, June 8th. This trading card series has a massive following worldwide and the game’s multiplayer lobbies should be even more packed than usual over the weekend.
Are you keen to check out any of this week’s games while they’re still at price zero? Let us know in the comments.
