Sandisk 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (PSP)

Written by: / / No Comments

The PSP is currently one of the most affordable handhelds on the market and boasts a huge library of games that incorporates hundreds of PSone Classics, PSN (PlayStation Network) releases, and PSP titles. To get the most out of the system you’ll need to have a decent-sized memory card and this is where SanDisk’s 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo comes in. Essentially identical to Sony’s own 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo in terms of functionality, SanDisk’s memory card comes in a funky transparent red, features MagicGate support for enhanced security and is more attractively priced than Sony’s offering. It weighs just 5g and feels ever so slightly lighter than Sony’s card.

SanDisk’s Memory Stick PRO Duo clicks into a slot on the left side of the PSP and is already formatted to be compatible with the handheld. It offers 3803MB of storage space which you can use to hold your comics, photos, music, videos, game saves and software collection. You can even copy documents or other file types to it when your PSP is connected to your PC and use is like a standard flash drive.

While most PSP games are available on UMDs (Universal Media Discs), it’s actually preferable to download them off the PlayStation Store and store them on a memory card such as SanDisk’s 4GB offering. UMDs have slow load times and are fairly noisy when they’re in use so downloading the digital version of a game and running it off your memory card is definitely the way to go. Many quality PSP titles such as God of War: Ghost of Sparta and LittleBigPlanet are under R100 each on the PlayStation Store so picking up the digital version of a PSP game is a very affordable option.

You’ll be able to store around three games at a time on SanDisk’s 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo depending on their file size and how much other media you have on your memory card. PSN games and PSone Classics tend to be a lot smaller than most PSP titles so you should be able to load plenty of these onto your memory card before reaching your storage limit. If you happen to run out of space you can always back up games you’re not currently playing to your PC, or delete them off your memory card and then re-download them when you’re keen to play them again.

SanDisk’s 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo costs just R197 from TAKEALOT and comes with a one-year warranty. Sony’s official PSP memory cards are difficult to find these days and are generally more expensive than their SanDisk equivalents, meaning that the latter company’s 4GB offering is the best choice for PSP gamers looking for excellent quality and exceptional value for money.
