EA Sports’ FIFA 12 has retained the top spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing to rack up its sixth consecutive No. 1 position, upping the title’s life-to-date chart victories to eight in total.
The Ace Attorney series is one of Capcom’s most comical and downright entertaining properties of the modern era. The past ten years have seen four titles in the main series being released, with 2007’s Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney being the franchise’s last numbered entry (the Japanese title was ‘Gyakuten Saiban 4’ - Turnabout Trial 4).
Did you think 2011 was jam-packed with fantastic videogames? Were you unable to keep up with the pace of releases due to time and budget constraints? Then we’ve got some bad news for you: The 2012 videogame release slate is going to be just as manic as 2011 with titles that promise to be just as spectacular as the best that last year could throw at us!
El33tonline has compiled a wonderfully huge list of games due for release in 2012, split up into monthly and weekly release windows. We’ve also included a healthy (READ: Overwhelming) list of games that don’t have set release dates just yet, but are still expected to launch in 2012.

El33tonline wasn’t the only crew touring gaming events in South Africa during the week of January 16th, as EA South Africa and a very special guest all the way from Australia were also making the rounds to attend gatherings of gamers in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
EA South Africa’s Ralph Spinks and Bianca McFadyen, along with EA Australia’s Brad Pidgeon, recently visited a number of gaming events in the country to meet with the gamers of Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as to extend EA’s message of community to gamers.
You’ve heard about Monolith’s upcoming team-based first-person shooter, haven’t you? You know, the one where you choose to play on the side of Team Bats or Team Jokerz and dart around sections of Gotham City wreaking havoc with all kinds of destructive weapons and gadgets?
The game that allows you to customise your character to your heart’s content with a massive range of accessories and gear inspired by The Batman and The Joker?
Yes, that team-based first-person shooter! The downloadable Gotham City Impostors!
A game is generally expected to have a solid music soundtrack to either enforce a mood or underscore dramatic moments and explosive action. In some games (most notably racing, sports, RTS or RPG titles) the gameplay music can become repetitive, while chosen licensed music can be completely mismatched to the type of game you’re playing.
Our Question of the Day then becomes:
Do you listen to different music while playing games?
As El33tonline toured around South Africa in an effort to crash as many gaming events as we could within the space of a single week, we had another chance to sample one of the get-togethers that gamers in Cape Town organise on a weekly basis.
The location for these meet-ups is never set in stone (as we soon learned), but the particular gathering that we attended was held at the Braza restaurant in Canal Walk shopping centre where Lisa and I got to chat with local gamers over some eats.
To date, Glenn Alexander and the team at 2upGamers have successfully run three amazing events for the gamers of Cape Town, complete with interesting guest speakers, food, drink and some of the latest games to play.
As 2upGamers has expanded so rapidly, the team was in need of a suitable location to host their gatherings with enough room for over 100 people to move, eat and chat (with room for swinging arms and legs to avoid damage during dance games, too).
Beginning with the Second Wave event in November, Cape Town-based digital design studio Friends of Design came to the rescue by volunteering its campus space to host these get-togethers, and thanks to them, Cape Town gamers have reaped the benefits of 2upGamers’ hard work and have been able to enjoy two additional highly successful gaming gatherings following the inaugural event in October.
Who or what is Friends of Design? Let’s have a look.
South African online retailer TakeALot has gone through a massive transformation over the last year - it was only a few months ago that the company was more well-known as the award-winning Take2, but now after a name change and a fresh, user-friendly website overhaul, TakeALot is now poised to continue on from its successes to become the country’s premier online destination for all of your entertainment product needs.
TakeALot’s Andrew Royal was at 2upGamers’ recent Third Encounter gaming event to let the audience know about the retailer’s community initiatives and an awesome TakeALot competition, as well as give away three limited edition versions of Mass Effect 3!
It’s the very first weekly game release round-up of 2012 here on El33tonline, so let’s make it a special occasion with lots of awesome new games, shall we?!
… dang.
So, there aren’t that many new games releasing this week around the world, but the quality is exceptionally high with the sequel to a long-awaited RPG sequel, the adventures of an immortal demon slayer, and an eternally told tale of souls and swords all making their way to retail over the next few days. Plus more!
Let’s look over the list of quality titles releasing this week, like it was the first time:
Gravity Rush (known as Gravity Daze in Japan) is the latest brainchild of Silent Hill creator Keiichirō Toyama. The game features an innovative gravity-shifting mechanic which is essential for both combat and navigation.
Here’s a crazy thought: It’s already the end of January 2012 and the end of another week contained within the confines of said month in said year. Where does the time go?
We thought that the year would get off to a slow start but the videogame industry continues to surprise with dozens of announcements and reveals already sailing o’er the rolling cables of The Internet.
Anyone looking forward to the release of Mass Effect 3 (either because of its epic singleplayer campaign or the mysterious multiplayer mode) won’t want to miss this latest gameplay trailer showcasing the classes and abilities you’ll be able to take advantage of while immersed in the co-operative missions online with friends.
In a continued effort to unite the gamers of Johannesburg and bring them all together under one roof, JHBGamers hosted another fantastic event this past week on January 18th at TSG4Ways, a great restaurant that just so happens to house a balcony area with space to allow roughly 60 people (or ‘gamers’) to mingle, chat and play some of the latest EA games.
There was also room enough for a variety of highly entertaining presentations to take place as JHBGamers organiser Jarrod Lane, El33tonline’s Lisa and EA’s Brad Pidgeon (all the way from Australia) stepped up to the plate to deliver interesting talks on their work, as well as their future endeavours.
I really love you Naughty Dog - you gave me what I believe to be one of the best game franchises ever created, you gave me a witty half-tucked Nathan Drake, and you gave me hours of entertainment in three awesome adventures.
There is, however, a flip side to this coin. Because you also gave me frustration at not being able to log in to multiplayer matches, disappointment at missing playing online with my friends, and anger that this issue has not yet been resolved.
